Cottage Grove, Ore. — Cottage Theatre will hold open auditions on Sunday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, by Christopher Durang. Auditions will take place at Cottage Theatre, 700 Village Drive, in Cottage Grove. A cast of six actors (two men and four women) is needed for this sophisticated and saucy comedy about sibling rivalry. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will run for three weekends from June 7 – 23, 2024. The show is directed by Lance Troxel.
Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is a hilarious, sometimes poignant, comedy that takes sibling rivalry to a whole new level. Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia have spent their entire lives in their family’s Pennsylvania farmhouse, where they spend their days bickering and complaining. Their glamorous movie star sister Masha, who was conveniently absent while their parents were ailing, shows up unexpectedly with her latest boy-toy Spike in tow. Old resentments flare and are fanned by the foretelling of the family’s maid-and-soothsayer Cassandra, who is constantly making dire predictions. Add to this mix a pretty young actress Nina, who triggers all of Masha’s insecurities, and you have the perfect formula for family chaos.
Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Pre-registration for auditions is requested.
