News from Whiteaker Printmakers
Whiteaker Printmakers in Eugene’s Whiteaker neighborhood will host two printmaking workshops this summer, the first in June and the second in July. They will be led by master printmaker Yuji Hiratsuka.
Here are the details:
  • Aluminum Plate Lithography,  June 24-25, 2023 Lithography is a traditional printing method based on the mutual repulsion of oil and water. Originally based on flat, smooth limestone slabs, similar methods may be used with aluminum plates. This two-day intensive workshop is an excellent introduction to the lithographic process, without the need for heavy litho stones. No previous printmaking experience is required – just a willingness to draw an image on the plate and get a bit inky!Go to our workshop event page for more information and to register.

  • Multi-Color Etching with One Plate, July 21-23, 2023In this workshop (now expanded to 3 days!), Hiratsuka will teach his distinct and engaging method of producing beautiful multi-color images from a single copper plate.  We will focus on only two colors, but the process can be extended to include additional colors.  The process begins with a deep etching printed in black, after which the plate is reclaimed and re-etched for subsequent printing in an additional color. Each new color layer offers a creative juncture as your image evolves.Go to our workshop event page for more information and to register.

In both workshops, all materials and supplies will be provided.  Just bring your creative ideas and a willingness to learn.  (And it never hurts to bring an apron.)
The workshops will take place at Whiteaker Printmakers, 1328 W. Second Ave. in Eugene.
