We’re starting to put new workshops on our 2023 calendar, and we want to let you know about the first two, coming up very soon:
Feb. 4 and 11, 2023 — Introduction to Screen Printing
Studio member and expert screen printer Brit Howard will lead this two-Saturday workshop to introduce you to the concepts, tools, and techniques of screen printing. Topics include what types of images are “fit-to-print”, familiarizing yourself with the tools and materials, coating screens and burning your image, and techniques for printing from your screen. March 4-5, 2023 — Mokuhanga: Japanese Woodblock Printmaking
Yuji Hiratsuka returns to WhitPrint to lead a 2-day workshop in this traditional Japanese method of woodblock printing. Using water-based pigments mixed with nori rice paste, applied with unique brushes, and printed by hand, Mokuhanga allows for soft and painterly relief prints. This workshop will introduce all aspects of the process: transfering images to wooden blocks, carving with Japanese tools, using the Kento registration system, and printing with traditional tools onto a Washi paper.
