The Very Little Theatre continues its season with The Real Inspector Hound, staged in the theater’s small Stage Left performance space.

The Real Inspector Hound, described as “a clever parody of the classic whodunit, blending absurd comedy with a keen critique of theater criticism,” will be on stage at The VLT from Feb. 28 through March 16. Daniel Squire directs.

The short, one-act play written in 1961-62 by Tom Stoppard originally was called first The Stand-ins and then The Critics before becoming The Real Inspector Hound. The plot revolves around two theater critics named Moon and Birdboot who, while watching the set-up for a murder mystery play that takes part in an English country house, somehow become part of the action. It parodies the type of plot found in many Agatha Christie mystery whodunits.

The cast at VLT includes Davida Bloom, David Smith, Lee Vogt, David Landon, Olivia Zejac, Eve James, David Beck, Jen Ferro, and Damon Noyes.
