Deep in an Oregon Forest, oil painting by Margaret Prentice

As of this year’s Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14, Oregon has been a state for 163 years, and in honor of that anniversary, the White Lotus Gallery put up a show featuring work by a dozen Oregon artists, called For the Love of Oregon.

The show runs through March 5 and features work by
Rich Bergeman,
Jon Jay Cruson
, Yuji Hiratsuka
, Li Tie
, Helen Liu
, Satoko Motouji
, Connie Mueller
, Dale Mueller,
Jamie Newton
, Nancy Pobanz
, Margaret Prentice, and
Gary Tepfer.

Helen Liu, Detail of Garden Diary: 2021. Yarn spun from Romney wool, Pleasant Hill, and Icelandic wool, Eugene, and dyed with homegrown fresh indigo, marigold, and eucalyptus.

The artists, all of whose work has been featured with some regularity at White Lotus through the years, were asked to share works inspired by their living,  working, and creating art in the Pacific Northwest.

The result is an eclectic collection of paintings, prints, photographs, drawings, sculpture, and textile art, each individual piece exemplifying a special connection between its artist and Oregon and aptly illustrating the state motto, “She Flies With Her Own Wings,” translated from the Latin, Alis volat propriis.
