It’s been through the best of times and the worst of times in its near-century of existence, and Eugene’s venerable Very Little Theatre is marking its 93rd birth year with several special events.

Not only that, the VLT is nearing completion of a million-dollar-plus reconstruction and remodeling project that includes changing the slope of the auditorium for better visibility, installing new-and-improved seats, improving accessible accommodation, enlarging and rebuilding the stage, all new rigging, and doubling the size of the scene and storage shop.

VLT offers several ways in March to celebrate all this accomplishment. Here’s what’s coming up:

  • Readers Theater Players — 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, Readers Theater Players, Capitello Wines, 540 Charnelton St., Eugene. Radio theater, skits, jokes. Masks and proof of vaccination are required. Tickets are free — reserve a space at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?actions=4&p=2 —but $10 donations are greatly appreciated.
  • Stories of VLT — 7 p.m. on Friday, March 18, Shelton McMurphey Johnson House, 303 Willamette St. (north of the railroad tracks). VLT members and volunteers share personal experiences with the nearly century-old theater. Masks and proof of vaccination are required. Reserve free tickets at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=135668
  • Minority Voices Theatre — 6:30 p.m. MVT co-founder, actor, and educator Stanley Coleman talks about the history of Black theater in America, with sample scenes and monologues. Livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook Live.
  • Film: Fashion Through the Decades — 7 p.m. VLT actors model examples of fashions from the VLT costume shop that trace the history of fashion in decades of the theater’s history. Live premiere on You Tube and Facebook Live!
