Another play by prolific U.S. playwright Lauren Gunderson comes to the Very Little Theatre stage on March 27 and runs through April 12.
It’s called The Revolutionists, and it takes place in France during the French Revolution. Notably, it’s about four real women of the time — a playwright named Olympe De Gouge, an assassin named Charlotte Corday, Marie Antoinette herself, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle.
One description of the play sums it up this way: “about four very real women (who) hang out, murder Marrat, lose their heads, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in Paris of 1783.”
Naturally, it’s a very small cast, which includes Jocelyn Kerr as de Gouges, Anesu Chipanera as Angelle Melanie Moser as Corday, and Tracy Brous as Marie Antoinette, with direction by Maggie Hadley.
Note: Probably not surprisingly, this show is billed as containing mature, adult language and themes and therefore is not appropriate for all audiences.
