After a two-year hiatus — pandemic-related, of course — The PhotoZone Gallery’s annual juried show of fine-art photography will be on display at the Emerald Art Center through July 29, with an opening reception from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8.

In addition to the PhotoZone Gallery exhibit, the Emerald Art Center also has a show of new work by many of its member artists, as well as a featured exhibit of paintings by member Damon Mitchell.

Mitchell calls his show Learning to Paint Landscapes in Oils because it reflects his own efforts to transform his longtime interest and observation of nature into oil paintings.

He is a native Oregonian who has observed the state’s landscapes from a variety of perspectives, including through photography. Many of the paintings in this show are renditions of those photographs. Through the years, his other creative endeavors have included sculpture, industrial and graphic design, and digital modeling and illustration as well as forays into art education and mechanical restoration..

Mitchell’s friend, fellow artist, and mentor, Nik Skoog, has a show of his own work on a wall adjacent to the Mitchell show.
