The dance program at Lane Community College — informally known as Lane Dance — along with guest dancers from Western Oregon University presents a show called Collaborations ’22 on Feb. 25 and 26 on the LCC Main campus.

The program includes a suite of five dances:

  • Hurry Up, Say Goodbye — directed by Bay Area dance artists Melecio Estrella and composer Ben Juodvalkis; explores the way in which people say good bye in the midst of personal, societal, and ecological change.
  • Opening — choreographed by Bonnie Simoa, director of the LCC dance program, and Tim Cowart, head of dance at Western Oregon University; started with selected costumes, music, and a poem but then was choreographed separately by the two before meshing their creations into one performance.
  • Stories/threads — a multimedia piece created by three LCC faculty members, with text by Daphne Gabrieli, video by Hannah Hamalian, and choreography by Sarah M. Nemecek; inspired by the story of Russian women pulling a plow in a circle around their village in the middle of the night during a plague and looking toward ancestors as guides for moving forward.
  • As I gaze across the grass — a study of birds choreographed by Sarah Nemecek for the Lane Dance Company, performed by Mulatu Astatke; based on the simple experience of walking outside and capturing details of movement.
  • Inside Love — a wildly explosive dance to a classic song by Led Zeppelin; co-created by Bonnie Simoa and six performers to express the satisfying, untamed expression of rock and roll.

This performance will happen before a live audience. Audience members must be masked and will be seated in a manner that creates safe social distancing. All ages are welcome.
