Keely and Du is a play written in 1993, about two women — Du, a right-to-life activist and Keely, a pregnant rape victim — and the relationship that develops between them.
It opens at The Very Little Theatre in the smaller Stage Left theater space on May 1 and continues through May 17.
VLT advises that the play “contains extreme subject matter, including abortion, sexual assault, kidnapping, and domestic violence. It is not appropriate for all audiences.”
As one might expect, the play, written in 1993 but still topical, examines the beliefs and attitudes that the two women bring to the situation and the ways they address their evolving ideological issues as their relationship develops. However, as real life might dictate, the play is described as the women’s efforts to “transcend their circumstances and the ideological issues that separate them to forge a relationship, but one without any easy answers.”
Leslie Murray directs the VLT production, with Eve James in the role of Keely and Amy Weinkauf as Du. The cast also includes Rohan Myers as Walter and David Landon as Cole. Leslie Murray directs.
