CALL TO ARTISTS: Día de los Muertos Exhibit at Maude Kerns Art Center
WHEN: October 13 – November 3, 2023
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday, August 7, 2023
The Maude Kerns Art Center is accepting submissions for its 30th annual Día de los Muertos Exhibit, scheduled for Oct. 13 to Nov. 3. All artists, working in all mediums, are eligible. There is a $15 application fee. All entries must be delivered or postmarked by Aug. 7.
Work must be original and must focus on the Mexican Day of the Dead, which blends the ancient harvest rituals of the Aztec god of death and the Roman Catholic holidays of All Saints and All Souls Days. The celebration honors the dead and acknowledges the link between the communities of the living and the dead.
Two ways to apply:
- Online at mkartcenter.org/call.html — Submit a completed online application form and pay the $15 submission fee;
- By mail or in person: Download and submit a completed application, along with an artist’s statement, résumé, flash drive with jpeg images, and the $15 submission fee to Maude Kerns Art Center, 1910 E. 15th Ave., Eugene.
Details: Up to five pieces per artist may be submitted for consideration. For all entries, artists must supply digital images in jpeg format (medium-sized at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher), one image per submitted piece. All jpegs must be labeled with the artist’s name and the title of the work.
Hand delivery: Gallery hours at the Maude Kerns Art Center are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday when exhibits are on display.
