Words and pictures by story translator Beatrice Lamwaka and photographer Dan Nelken make up a new show at the Emerald Art Center called HeadStrong: The Women of Rural Uganda.
Here’s how the center describes the content of the show:

” … an ongoing photographic and storytelling project focusing on working women in rural Uganda. These women are at a critical crossroads in their agrarian society. Emerging from a history of war and economic uncertainty, women are the tipping point of a future with more possibilities for their gender and offspring. As their accompanying stories reveal, many are hampered by lack of education and opportunities for themselves and their children.

Yet, most have hope.”

Another show at the center during February offers photographs by featured member of the center, Grady Tarbutton.

Titled Finding Light and Spirit, it examines the relationship between light and human spirit.

Irene Maguire’s Purple Cello, was a 2020 entry in Chamber Music Amici’s annual art contest

But wait — there’s even more. The center also has a display of the “Top 10” entries in the Chamber Music Amici’s annual art contest to choose poster art for its coming season.
