Calendar: Naturally, the Eugene Public Library has lots of books, but that’s just the beginning of the activities and events — music, art, comedy, theater and more — available to people of all ages

Maker Hub Open Labs — downtown library. Drop in to use a variety of tools to create a project, with a different emphasis each week. Participants must have a Eugene Public Library card. Each session is limited to 10 participants at a time, on a first-come basis. Admission is free, but there may a charge for project materials.
* 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 15 and 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 17. “Sewing and Textiles” offers the use of sewing machines, eager, embroidery machine, hand looms, knitting needles and more. Bring fabric, thread and other needed project materials.

Family Music Time — At 10:15 a.m. each Saturday in December at the downtown library, children and families can sing and dance with a different performer each week. Information at 541-682-8316.
* Dec. 17 — Sing along with Anahid Bertrand, fluent in six languages and musical fun.
* Dec. 24 — Banjo entertainment with Emily Fox.
* Dec. 31 — Music with Jodie St. Clair, director of the Eugene Suzuki Music Academy.

Coloring Party for Adults — 10 a.m. to noon every Monday at both the Bethel and Sheldon Branches. Coloring sheets and colored pencils provided or bring-your-own.

Light-Up Cards —  6 p.m. on Dec. 13, Sheldon Branch. Adults and teens create decorative greeting cards that glow, using LED lights, copper tape and coin cell batteries. Supplies provided.

 Pajama Storytime — 6 p.m. on Dec. 13, downtown library. Stories, rhymes, and songs geared to children 0 through 6 years old, accompanied by their grown-ups. Pajama Storytime happens on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

The Nutcracker: Short & Suite — 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., downtown library. The Eugene Youth Ballet performs a child-size version of the classic Nutcracker story for kids and families.

Digital Design: Seasonal Ornaments — 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, downtown library. Try digital design to make your own holiday ornament, using create vector graphics and an EggBot art robot to print your design on a round ornament. All supplies provided. Call 541-682-5450 to register.

Ani-Manga Club for Teens — 4 p.m. on Dec. 16, downtown library. Get together with friends who love anime and manga while enjoying Japanese snacks. The club meets the third Friday of each month.

Store and Share Photos Online — 10 a.m. on Dec. 17, downtown library. Introduction to organizing and sharing digital photos in the cloud, emailing photos and creating online albums. The library uses PCs, but most of the tips apply to Macs also. No camera needed, but internet skills are necessary.

Family Fun — 1 p.m. every Sunday, downtown library. Activities are offered each week for children and families. On Dec. 18, it’s “Songs, Dances and Games of West Africa” with Habiba Addo and live drumming.

Intro to Video Editing — 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 19, downtown library. Hands-on introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro software through editing a short video using provided footage, audio and photographs. Basic computer skills needed. Must have a Eugene Public Library car and register in advance at 541-682-5450.

Comedy Show for Kids: “Open Up and Say HA!” — 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Dec. 20, downtown library; 11 a.m. on Dec. 21, Bethel Branch; 2 p.m. on Dec. 21, Sheldon Branch. Rick Huddle helps kids use improvisational skits, stories and music to create humor together in a production that’s part concert, part theater and all fun.

Family Night — 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, Sheldon Branch; 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, Bethel Branch. Kids and their grown-ups can experience a different activity each month, on the third Tuesday at the Sheldon Branch and the fourth Tuesday at the Bethel Branch. In December, the theme is “Winter Fun,” with games, snowflake making and acting out stories.

Teens: Make a Wind Art Mobile — 2 p.m. on Dec. 28, downtown library. Use recyclables, natural materials, decorative papers and more to create an artistic mobile.

Tween Scene Book Club — 4 p.m. on Dec. 29, downtown library. December’s book is “Absolutely Truly: A Pumpkin Falls Mystery” by Heather Vogel Frederick. Truly Lovejoy and her friends chase clues to discover the meaning of an undelivered letter she found hidden in a 100-year-old bookstore. For grades 4 through 6. Pick up the book and register in advance at the Children’s Center in the downtown library.

Teen Book Group & Movie — 3 p.m. on Dec. 29, downtown library. Read “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” by Ransom Riggs and then get together at the library to see the movie and eat snacks. Register in advance to pick up a copy of the book, at the Downtown Teen Desk.
