The deadline for artists to submit their concepts of what “Food is” has been extended to 5 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2022.
The White Lotus Gallery is joining with FOOD for Lane County — and hopefully a bunch of area artists — to create a juried show that will be on display at the gallery early in 2023.
The theme is “Food is …” and the idea is just that, what the concept of food means to individual artists and how it can be represented in their work. All the artwork in the show must be available for purchase, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to FOOD for Lane County to support its programs, 40 percent going to the artist, and 10 percent to White Lotus. There will be a $20 submission fee to apply for inclusion in the show.
Following is updated information and links needed to submit entries:
- the entry form: https://foodforlanecounty.org/submit-artwork-here/
- the PayPal link for the entry fee: http://paypal.me/wlg1992
The judges who select the artwork for the show include Dan Temmesfeld, finance and IT director of FOOD for Lane County, psychologist Barbara Walker, and John Weber, executive director of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon.
The show will open at White Lotus Gallery on Feb. 24, 2023 and run through April 1, 2023.
Here’s a rundown of the submission guidelines:
- Entries must be derived from original concept and design and should explore the subject of food.
- Work in any medium will be considered by the jury.
- All entries will be judged by digital images only, submitted to tinyurl.com/2ch5d3tk
- Each artist may enter up to two works for consideration.
- Artist must submit at least one high definition digital photo of each piece.
- Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on October 25, 2022.
- The jury reserves the right to refuse any work.
- Selected artists will be contacted by White Lotus Gallery no later than November 15, 2022.
- All artwork must be exhibit ready, meaning all surfaces must be dry and fixed. Appropriate means for hanging and securing work must be provided. All artwork must conform to the photos submitted.
- All artwork must be for sale. Proceeds from the sale will be divided as follows: Artist, 50 percent; FOOD for Lane County, 40 percent; White Lotus Gallery, 10 percent.
- Artists have the option of donating the entire proceeds to FOOD for Lane County for hunger relief.
All artwork accepted into the show must be hand-delivered to White Lotus Gallery at 767 Willamette St., Eugene, OR 97401, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, or between 10 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.
