White Lotus Gallery’s first show of 2026 is titled From Black to White: An Exploration of Shades, and the gallerists introduce the exhibit with words by renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt: “Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive.”
In other words, while color is important to the way people perceive the world around them, in the absence of color, the mind must invoke experience and imagination to interpret images, and the lack of color also can quiet the mind and emotions, encouraging deeper reflection.
With that in mind, they hope their new black-and-white exhibit will encourage visitors to “slow down with us and ruminate over the interplay of light, shade and outlines.”
