Even if you’re not a track fan, you probably know — or will soon just because of all the thousands of extra people who will flock to Eugene from July 15-24 — that the 18th edition of the World Athletic Championships will be held at Hayward Field, the first time the competition has been held in the United States.
The nearby Maude Kerns Art Center plans to mark the event with a show of its own, called Home Team: World Stage, featuring artwork selected by a panel of judges — Kathleen Caprario, Mija Matriz, and Michael Whitenack — who themselves are prominent artists in the area.
But you don’t have to wait until the games to see the art. The show opens on June 24 with a public reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Home Team the art show includes a wide variety of art types — photography, collage, paintings in various mediums, prints, fiber arts, colored pencil, pastel, wood sculpture, and mixed media — by 67 “home team” artists from throughout Lane County.
The exhibit will run through July 22 and can be viewed either in person or online at mkartcenter.org.
