It’s time again forĀ  the Mayor’s Teen Art Show at the Maude Kerns Art Center, and the 2018 version, titled “Fast Forward,” features work by 39 teenagers from nine schools in the Eugene area.

Allison Prince’s fine-art piece, “Rose Tea,” pays homage to her grandmother, who owned the porcelain set

Jurors for this year’s exhibit included Michael Fisher, executive director of the hosting art center; artist Anne Bumb Hamilton; and art instructor Shelby Harvey.

The youthful artists created work in many styles and substances, including acrylic, watercolor, pencil, pen-and-ink, digital, and woodcut, as well as sculpture, ceramics, and mixed-media.

Several prizes have been awarded and will be announced officially at the opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis bestows the Mayor’s Choice Award, and other prizes include the Jurors’ Awards, the Maude Kerns Art Center Award, and several Artist Recognition Awards.

Some of the work in the show is traditional, such as Churchill High School student Allison Prince’s paint-pen creation, “Rose Tea,” which evokes memories of her grandmother, who bequeathed the antique tea porcelains to Prince’s family. The artist’s versatility is reflected in another piece, a portrait of a math teacher created from math notes glued to tag board.

Margret Logan’s lion portrait, “Fire in Winter,” is one of several of her pieces on display in the teen art show

Photography is the medium of Julien Zapata-Minchow of South Eugene High School, whose digital artwork combines characteristics of both abstract and watercolor art.

North Eugene High School student Margret Logan has three watercolor-and-ink pieces and two acrylic paintings in the show. She is especially interested in animals as subjects, trying to capture their personalities by assuming their facial expressions as she draws.

The Maude Kerns Art Center has hosted the teen art show since 2000.
