The Eugene Concert Choir, Eugene Concert Orchestra, and Eugene Vocal Arts will join musical forces on Dec. 2 to usher in the holiday season with Christmas Classics & Carols, led by artistic director and conductor Diane Retallack.

The program is a combination of beloved traditional carols, jazz arrangements of popular songs such as White Christmas and Christmastime is Here, along with the mighty opening of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.

In addition, there will be vocal renditions of the Nutcracker March and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s holiday suite.

Soloists are soprano Emilie Faiella and contralto Laura Beckel Thoreson, who will perform the Christmas story portion of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, and the choirs and audience will join in a singalong of his fabled Hallelujah Chorus.

Those who arrive as much as an hour earlier than the scheduled concert will be entertained by the Oregon Tuba Ensemble as well as another singalong of familiar Christmas carols.
