The Emerald City Jazz Kings open their 2023-24 season on Friday, Oct. 20 in Eugene, move to Corvallis on the 21st and then back to Eugene on Sunday, Oct. 22.
Here’s how they introduce the opening concert:
The Jazz Kings are decidedly standards-based. Each year, we do offer an evening of big band Swing replete with a mix of original big band instrumentals and a choice selection of the Songbook classics, which were de rigueur for all the bands during the Swing Era. Glenn Griffith takes a different turn this year with a Jazz Kings big band program that is completely filled with gems from the Classic Songbook by the likes of Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser, Richard Rodgers, Harold Arlen, Jimmy Van Heusen, Victor Young, and many others. Look for classics like “Why Don’t You Do Right”, “It Never Entered My Mind”, “Satin Doll”, “The Man I Love”, and more.
