The show is called One Fine Day, which those of a certain age will recall as one of singer-songwriter Carole King’s many greatest hits.
It’s on a concert program at The Shedd along with many of her others — think Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Up on the Roof, I Feel the Earth Move, You’ve Got a Friend, It’s Too Late — when artistic director Lynnea Barry, joined by Shedd regulars Vicki Brabham, Hanna Foshay, and Siri Vik, sing 21 of King’s songs.
Their vocals will be accompanied by Brabham on piano, plus Steve Arriola (guitar), Paige Iavelli (drums), Matt Taylor (reeds), and Nathan Waddell (bass).
Carole King, now 81 years old, began her music career in 1958 at age 16, and has been the creator or co-creator since of 118 hits on the Billboard Top 100, collaborating at various times with dozens of other musical luminaries as varied as Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and Kanye West.
Her first solo album, Tapestry, won four Grammy awards and stayed on the Billboard Top 100 chart for six years, including 15 weeks in the No. 1 spot. She has been the recipient of many other awards, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice (first for writing and later for performing), the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize for popular song, another in Washington, D.C.
This concert includes selections of her music from 1960 to to 1971.
