Photography at Oregon’s Last Friday Movie Night for June 2026 will be a Keith Carter mashup. PAO film curator Greg Burns has chosen three videos created by photographer and educator Keith Carter, resulting in a 75-minute look at his methods and images.

The feature video, titled Rollin’ and Tumblin’: Twelve Bar Photo Technique, compares photographic composition to musical composition with an eye toward “finding your own unique personal voice, exploring the creative process, and using intuitive storytelling in photography,” part of B&H Optic’s photo video series.

It’s based on the concept that every piece of music ever written, “from Happy Birthday to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony,” draws from the merely 12 notes that make up the chromatic scale (on a piano, for example, upward from middle C through the B before the next C, including all the white and black keys).

Then it goes on to describe the corresponding 12 notes of the “photographic scale” and how he uses them.

That video will be followed by two short Keith Carter-related features, Inspiration from Keith Carter and Keith Carter: 50 Years.
