Chamber Music Amici will perform a chamber music concert titled Romantic Reverberations on Feb. 16, exploring the emotional depth of Romantic-era music, which includes music written between 1800 and 1910.
The pieces that will be on the program include works range in tone from introspective to dramatic:
Frank Bridge • Three Songs for Voice, Viola, and Piano, H. 76
Robert Schumann • Fantasiestücke for clarinet and piano, Op. 73
Johannes Brahms • Two Songs for Voice, Viola, and Piano, Op. 91
Max Bruch • Five Pieces from Eight Pieces, Op. 83
“This program explores the passion of the Romantic era through the music of its most
quintessential composers,” Chamber Music Amici artistic director Eunhye Grace Choi said in announcing the program. “The rich timbre created by the blend of voice, wind, string, and piano offers a fresh and mesmerizing perspective on Romantic expression, one that expands and redefines the romanticism you thought you knew.”
In addition to Choi on piano, the musicians include Wonkak Kim, clarinet; Lillie Manis, viola; with vocals by mezzo soprano Ágnes Vojtkó. A pre-concert talk by composer, writer, music critic and longtime University of Oregon professor Terry McQuilkin will begin at 6:45 p.m., providing background on the music and composers featured on the program.
