Crew in Motion, by Nancy Pobanz

Summer means different things to different people, and those varied interests are amply reflected in the White Lotus Gallery’s new show, Summer: Reflection of the Season.

The exhibit presents a collection of new work by 14 artists represented by the gallery: Jon Jay Cruson, Analee Fuentes, Yuji Hiratsuka, Li Tie, Helen Liu, Satoko Motouji, Connie Mueller, Dale Mueller, Judy Ness, Jamie Newton, Lillian Pitt, Nancy Pobanz, Christine L. Sundt and Gary Tepfer.

Yuji Hiratsuka’s Summer Feast

The subjects explored by the artists vary from Li Tie’s densely colored oil painting of a lotus pond in summer to Nancy Pobanz’s spare sketches of the crew at an Eastern Oregon archaeological dig, for which she uses — as she usually does — pigments she creates herself from soils, plants, and minerals throughout Oregon.

In between there are many more artworks, such as Yuji Hiratsuka’s intaglio print of young women enjoying a traditional meal together and Jamie Newton’s deceptively simple Small Book about Mountains Rising from the Plains .
