The Maude Kerns Art Center has been selected to receive a $100,000 grant award through the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative. The initiative is a grant-making program established by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation in collaboration with Environment & Culture Partners, to catalyze climate action in the visual arts.
The Art Center is proud to be among grantees that range from major art museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art to smaller Indigenous-led and community-anchored institutions.
Funds will be used to complete phase 2 of the art center’s 21st-century systems project, which includes an HVAC and building energy performance upgrade to the main building, increasing energy performance through energy efficiency measures that also will enhance the comfort of its students, visitors, and staff. The result will reduce such emissions to less than 5% of previous emissions over one year, which will significantly reducing energy costs for the art center.
About the Maude Kerns Art Center: Located at 1910 E. 15th Ave., at the corner of 15th and Villard streets, it is Eugene’s first non-profit community center for the visual arts.
