There’s lots going on at the Emerald Art Center in March, starting with the Second Friday Art Walk from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 13, and continuing through March 27.

To begin, the center is hosting a show titled Land and Sea, featuring works by artists in the Pacific Rim Art Guild. The theme of this show is works taking inspiration from the Biblical text in Psalm 104.

Two members of the art center — Demetra Kalams and Sarah Bloom Kinser — also have their own exhibits during March. Kalams’ show primarily includes works that have been created during the past year, reflecting the changes of the seasons. Bloom Kinser’s show includes pieces reminiscent of postcards of Oregon, reflecting snippets of her own travels throughout the state.

Also on display will be a memorial show of works by Joan Bray, who combined her interest in nature and poetry into works of art. Originally from Wales and reared in England, she came to the United States as a war bride during world War II. Her other activities included botany, bird-watching, and calligraphy — she was a founding member of the Valley Calligraphy Guild — with a particular interest in illuminated manuscripts.
