In a departure from its usual artistic offerings, White Lotus Gallery in downtown Eugene will sponsor a a special book reading of prose and poetry on Dec. 9, co-written by mother Barbara Walker and her son, Jim Walker, who was born with a congenital anomaly, often referred to as a birth defect.
The book is titled Choosing Ourselves: Love and Advocacy in Overcoming a Birth Defect and the American Medical System. It reflects conversations between mother Barbara Walker and her adult son, Jim, which have become a memoir.
The poems and prose will be read by Barbara Walker and her husband, Dr. Jim Walker, along with conversations about their experiences — struggles and triumphs — in raising their son.
Those who attend the book reading also will be able to view the exhibit currently on display at White Lotus Gallery. It is a show of recent pottery creations, titled Fired Up: New Clay Works by Hank Murrow.
