Guided tour
The first stop on the official guided tour of the downtown Eugene’s First Friday ArtWalk at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 will be at one of the city’s most historic buildings, the Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House.
The Queen Anne-style home, built in 1888 and owned in turn by three prominent Eugene families, sits on the south face of Skinner Butte, across the railroad tracks from the also historic railroad depot in downtown Eugene.
Its official address is 303 Willamette St., but don’t rely on that to get you there, given that Willamette Street essentially dead-ends at the tracks. Instead, go north across the railroad tracks and take the section of Third Avenue that runs between Pearl Street on the east and Lincoln Street on the west; it’s signed Shelton McMurphey Boulevard.
If you’re there for the official excursion, you’ll meet Tomi Douglas, the city of Eugene’s director of Cultural Services, who will be leading a tour that continues on to Studio Amiche, Modern, Out on a Limb Gallery and Euphoria Chocolate Company before ending at 8 p.m.
Art on display the Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House includes unusual handmade wreaths by local artists, including Jud Turner, Tamara Fountain and Karen Rainsong. The wreaths will be sold via a silent auction that begins during the “Very Victorian Holiday Party” at the house during the art walk and ends at 4 p.m. on Dec. 4.
Patsy Hand’s “Hiking the Ridgeline Trail” is part of a show at Studio Amiche
From there, the guided tour goes at 6 p.m. to Studio Amiche at 199 E. Fifth Ave., No. 23, upstairs above the Steelhead restaurant. Artists Kathryn Hutchinson and Patsy Hand will be on display, featuring Hutchinson’s fine etchings, monotypes and oils and Hand’s impressionist and abstract work in several mediums, including pieces based on her recent trip to Scotland.
At 6:30 p.m., the stop will be at Modern at 207 E. Fifth Ave., Suite 105, with a show called “FRESH@ The Art of Modern Jewelry Design” to show and sell jewelry designs by current and former students of the Jewelry and Metalsmith Department of the University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Allied Arts. Pieces in the show range from raw concept pieces to finished designs, and people involved with the program will be on hand to talk about the full length of the
design process. Proceeds from the sale will be divided among the student designers and the department, to purchase tools, bring exhibits to the university and pay for guest artist workshops and lectures.

The Out on a Limb Gallery at 199 E. Broadway is the 7 p.m. location, with a show of Marco Elliott’s landscapes from his home region of Provence, France, where he lived for nearly 35 years, as well as recent paintings of scenes on the Oregon Coast, many of them painted on location., or “plein air.”
The last stop on the official tour is at 7:30 p.m. at the Euphoria Chocolate Company at 946 Willamette St., where a collection of quilts and quilted items inspired by popular shows, cult classics and cultural phenomena will be on display, including works inspired by Dr. Who, Firefly, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Outlander, Jane Austen and more. There also will be a demonstration of foundation paper piecing.

• ECO Sleep Solutions and Gallery (25 E 8th Ave) — A potpourri of art, with felted wool home décor and apparel by Tylar Merrill; clay tile collages by Annie Heron; wall art by Mari Livie; hand-painted wood and linen pieces and silk apparel by Lybi Thomas; stone carvings, wood sculptures and fanciful masks by Cedar Caredio; and Luminessence light sculptures by Stephen White.
• Eugene Mindworks (207 E 5th Ave, Suite 220) — “Elements of Light” includes 3-D pieces, light fixtures, and other creations as well as a holiday party and fundraiser, that includes a raffle, arts and crafts and an art sale in support of the All Access Art program.
• Eugene Public Library (100 W 10th Ave) — Starting at 6 p.m., an uplifting concert by the In Accord Choir.
• Eugene Yoga (245 E Broadway) — “Sacred and Medicinal Plants,” a series of mandalas painted in watercolor and pen and ink by Dorothy Benson.
Celeste-Schield-Jacobi’s art is on display at gilt+gossamer
• gilt+gossamer (873 Willamette St) — Prints by Celeste Schield Jacobi of transitional-style colors and shapes both surreal and illustrative.
• Goldworks Jewelry Art Studio (169 E Broadway) — Original jewelry by Goldworks staff.
• The Jazz Station (124 W Broadway) — Paintings by Dhira Lawrence. Gallery show closes at 7 p.m. with a musical performance by the Corey Foster Collective at 8 p.m.; tickets are $12.
• Karin Clarke Gallery (760 Willamette St) — “Adam Grosowsky: The Ride,” new oil paintings on display through December 24th. Series was inspired by Los Caprichos, a set of 80 etchings by one of Grosowsky’s art heroes, Goya.
• The Lincoln Gallery (309 W 4th Ave) — New artwork by OSLP Arts & Culture Program artists in their newly remodeled gallery plus work by local artist Sarah Crow in the Community Room Gallery.

Special events
•Broadway Commerce Center (44 W Broadway — A fundraising sale by the Makindu Children’s Program ReJEWEL features handmade statement pieces, including natural wonders like coral and malachite, as well as some delicate heirloom pieces to benefit hundreds of orphaned and vulnerable children in Makindu, Kenya. Also on display is “Cranes for Progress,” 1,000 paper cranes folded and installed in the entryway and as a mobile thank-you and heartfelt goodbye to President Obama, his family, and his administration. There’s also a show of paintings by Lauren Woorem, featuring animals as well as people who are “happa”, meaning half Korean and half American and folk music by Kate Sevy on guitar and vocals, and Linda Johnson on viola.
•Golden Arts Healing Collective (395 W Broadway) — The group celebrates its two-year anniversary with a show called “Still,” realist and surrealist portraits and still life in watercolors and acrylics on canvas by L. Duman-Rubino. Live music by Loftän begins at 6pm.
•No Shame Eugene (99 W 10th Ave) — The doors open at 7:30 p.m. with live music. The show at 8 p.m. offers 15 original, five-minute-maximum acts that might include monologues, sketch comedy, and the experimental, featuring the first 15 acts to register.
•University of Oregon + RAIN (942 Olive St) — The University of Oregon’s Product Design program presents “Feast for Fifty,” a celebration of food, design, and making. The folks at Party Downtown are cooking a meal for 50 guests, and a group of Product Design students has made everything else – tables, chairs, glassware, ceramics, lighting, and textiles. Come see the room staged and ready before the event. Students will be on hand to interpret all of the designs. More info at feastforfifty.com/. The exhibit closes to the public at 7:30pm.
