Details: Put together an intriguing mystery in this half-day workshop intensive. Explore the who, where, how—and most important—why of writing a mystery. We’ll examine these basic questions as building blocks for developing a plot, with twists, turns, and the unexpected.
* Who – Developing a protagonist that readers will connect with, cheer for, and follow – and an antagonist who is slowly revealed in the story.
* Where – Setting is crucial – in fact, it’s one of the “characters” in the mystery.
* How – What are the actions/reactions behind the mystery … and how will the protagonist find the clues and connect them to conclusion?
* Why – This speaks to the motivation behind the crime/murder — and the protagonist’s drive to solve it.
The Elements of the Workshop:
-Patricia will take you through the building blocks of a mystery to help you understand how they work and how to put yours together.
-Plentiful exercises and writing prompts will help you suss out the deep-seated motivations of all the suspects (and protagonist!).
-Examine great plot twists and turns, and learn how to craft your own.
-Time to focus on your writing surrounded by women and peers in a space that invites you to be your most authentic selves.
This workshop welcomes writers new to writing mysteries, and those looking to refine their craft. Join us for this unique writing experience. Classes will feature lecture, in-class writing, and sharing work.
