In keeping with the celebration on Feb. 14 of Valentine’s Day, Chamber Music Amici has scheduled two concert performances of romantic music, a matinee on Feb. 16 and an evening performance on Feb. 17.
The program includes works by Louise Farrenc, Madeleine Dring, Joseph Haydn, and Max Bruch.
The musicians who will perform these pieces are Jacqueline Cordova-Arrington (flute), Dieter Koch (oboe), Steven Pologe (cello), Jonas Pologe (flute), and Eunhye Grace Choi (piano).
Ticket prices include a pre-concert talk about the composers and a post-concert dessert reception (both free) flanking both performances, which carry the title, Romantic and Modern Gems: Chamber Music Amici’s February Concert.
Specifically, the program includes Farrenc’s Trio in E minor from the Romantic era, described as a “masterpiece blending classical form with German Romantic expressiveness,” as well as Dring’s Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Piano, with its “theatrical flair and neoclassical influences.”
In addition, it offers Joseph Haydn’s Trio in C major for Two Flutes and Cello from his London period (1791-95, when he was in his early sixties and 18 years before his death), and portions of Max Bruch’s Three Pieces for Oboe, Cello, and Piano, with their flavors of “Brahmsian warmth and Mendelssohnian vitality.”
