If you missed Chamber Music Amici’s first annual Summer Concert Series last year — and many probably did during the high doldrums of the pandemic — here’s some good news for you: The second annual Chamber Music Amici’s Summer Concert Series will begin with performances on July 26 and 27 at the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, with a second set of concerts on Aug. 30 and 31.

Piano Four Hands

The ensemble will be joined by pianist Namhee Lim of South Korea, who will play for the first time with the group in a challenging program called Piano Four Hands, which Eunhye Grace Choi, Chamber Music Amici’s artistic director and pianist helped to “choreograph,” with two pianists sharing one instrument for five pieces.

The program includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Sonata for Piano Four-hands in D Major K. 38; Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for Piano Four-hands; Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals for Piano four-hands; Gabriel Fauré’s Dolly Suite for Piano Four-hands, Op. 56; and Carlos Guastavino’s Romance del Plata (Sonatina for Piano Four-hands).

When: 7 p.m. on July 26 and 27

Where: Mt. Pisgah Arboretum in the Howard Buford Recreation Area southeast Eugene at 34901 Frank Parrish Road, off Seavey Loop Road.

Tickets: Seats in the White Oak Pavilion are $35 general admission, $5 for students. Some free lawn seating tickets also are available. Tickets may be purchased or reserved online at chambermusicamici.org/2022-summer-concert-series/

Shadow of Greatness

The second performance in the summer concert series features Duet for Clarinet and Bassoon, WoO (works without an opus number) by Ludwig van Beethoven; Quartet for Bassoon and Strings in G Minor, Op. 73 No. 3 by François Devienne; and Quartet for Clarinet and String Trio in E-flat
Major by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.

Musicians include Chamber Music Amici regulars Jessica Lambert (violin), Lillie Manis (viola), and Steven Pologe (cello) with guest artists Ben Greanya (bassoon) and Wonkak Kim (clarinet).

A mix of strings and piano are the most commonly used instruments in chamber music, according to Chamber Music Amici’s artistic director Choi, but the addition of a solo wind instrument “drastically expands the compositional possibilities.”
