The play

VLT calls The Fox on the Fairway, written by Ken Ludwig and to be directed by Daniel Squire, “a tribute to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s. It takes place at the 19th hole lounge of Quail Valley Country Club as it prepares to take on its archrival, Crouching Squirrel, in the annual inter-club golf tournament. The two rival country club directors make a sizable wager on the tournament, and chaos ensues …”

The characters

Justin — (Male 20s-30s); eager new employee of Quail Valley and a scratch
amateur golfer.

Louise — (Female 20s-30s); works at the 19th hole at Quail Valley and recently
engaged to Justin. Studying Homer at Community College.

Bingham (Henry) — (Male 40s-50s); director of Quail Valley who foolishly makes
a large wager with his rival, which includes (without her knowledge) his wife’s
antique shop.

Dickie — (Male 40s-50s); director of Crouching Squirrel and Bingham’s hated rival and a
serial womanizer with terrible taste in golf attire who often gets his sayings and
aphorisms mixed up.

Pamela — (Female 40s-50s); Headstrong, savvy treasurer of Quail Valley.
Ex-wife of Dickie, whom she hates. She and Bingham had a fling in their youth.

Muriel — (Female 40s-50s); married to Bingham, but more devoted to her
antique shop. She and Dickie seem to be taken with each other.

Audition format: Cold readings from the script; no monologues required.
