Songs@Tsunami — 5 p.m. Laura Wayte’s series of “Art Songs” continues with mezzo-
soprano Janene Nelson singing poetry — accompanied by pianist Yuliya Minina — to compositions by Amy Beach, Leonard Bernstein, Dominick Argento, Aaron Copland and Virgil Thompson. Nelson did her doctoral work at the University of Oregon and now teaches voice at Seattle Pacific University. She was a founder of Eugene’s Cascadia Opera and sang in Eugene Opera’s “Sweeney Todd.” One of her offerings at Songs@Tsunami will be Bernstein’s “La Bonne Cuisine.” $10 at the door.

Reading and Book Signing — 7 p.m. Henry “Hank” Alley presents his book, “The Dahlia Field,” a collection of 14 short stories published over the past two decades that “explore the inexorable force of male-to-male attraction,” according to Alley, who is professor emeritus of literature at the University of Oregon and author of four previously published novels. The Kirkus Review says of “The Dahlia Field,” “With sensitivity and deadpan humor, Alley’s luminous stories explore a wealth of characters and social types thrown into fertile combinations.” Free.

Book Release and Signing and Documentary Debut — 4 p.m. Marc Waszkiewicz presents his book, “1000 Yard Stare: A Marine’s Eye View of the Vietnam War,” published by Stackpole Books. Waszkiewicz took thousands of photographs during multiple tours during his service in Vietnam. Musical Prelude — 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pianist Paul Safar, singer Nancy Wood and saxophonist Matt Saples will entertain in advance of the Eugene All-Ages Poetry Tslam which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with sign-ups to participate at 7 p.m., an open mic at 7:30 p.m., a featured poet at 8 p.m. and the Tslam at 8:30 p.m. Jorah LaFleur will preside, and there will be prizes for the top three poets and free tea and fun for all. A sliding-scale fee of $5 to $15 is good for both events.

Book Release Celebration — 4 p.m. Eugene author Barb Ryan presents her book, “Love Loves Fear,” billed as, “If a book could hug, this one would.” Shamanic teacher Alida Birch, author of “The Co-Creation Handbook,” also will be on hand. Light refreshments will be provided by the Park Street Café.
