Piano concert

Albert Tiu, professor of piano at Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, will give a solo piano recital. The program includes Peter Tchaikovsky’s Grand Sonata in G Major, Opus 37 and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Opus 28.

Chamber Music @ Beall

“Phantasm” is an award-winning quartet of viols that explores Elizabethan-era composers such as Thomas Tallis and William Byrd and later works by J.S. Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The group comes from Ameridan, Scottish and Finnish origins and features Oregon Bach Festival principal cellist Jonathan Manson.

World Music Series: Dréos

Dréos is an ensemble of performing composers who invent and arrange new and old music using a traditional vocabulary. The word “Dréos” s Scottish-Gaelic and translates into English as “blaze.”
The group includes Eliot Grasso on uilleann pipes, Brandon Vance on fiddle and Glen Waddell on guitar and bouzouki.

The Grammy Show

In advance of the Grammy Awards, the UO’s new music ensemble in residence will perform selections from the 2017 nominated songs in a wide variety of categories and with a wide variety of interpretations.

The Dover String Quartet, with its musical refinement and adventurous programming, has been called “the young string quartet of the moment” by The New Yorker magazine.
They are joined by Grammy Award-winning mandolin player Avi Avital, with works from J.S. Bach to David Bruce.

In Beall with Brahms

UO faculty pianist Alexandre Dossin continues the series with No. 7, featuring the complete chamber works with piano by Johannes Brahms, a first for the UO. This is the third and final year of the cycle.
This concert features cellist Steve Peloge, violist Leslie Straka, vocalist Karen Esquivel and returning guest artist, clarinetist Michael Anderson.
Featured pieces are the Cello Sonata in F Major, Opus 99; Clarinet Sonata in F Minor, Opus 120; and 2 Songs for Alto, Viola and Piano, Opus 91.
