The Emerald Art Center’s main exhibit for November is titled Whispers of Nature, and it includes landscape photographs by Franka M. Gabler.
Her pictures are described as “subtle, moody, often intimate,” often capturing small scenes rather than broader landscapes and also gravitating toward atmospheric conditions such as snow, mist, fog, and haze.
Many of the pictures in this exhibit have been taken in California in places Gabler knows well, such as Yosemite National Park and the Eastern Sierra mountains lying between California and Nevada.
Gabler’s photography has received international recognition, including the overall winner of the 2022 Landscape Photography World Awards, the 2021 First Place award in the “Intimate and Abstract” category of the Natural Landscape Photography Awards, and lasst year, recognition as a Highly Commended Photographer of the Year. Her work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad and can be seen online at frankagabler.com.
The Emerald Art Center in November also features Memorias de mi Patria, Memories of My Homeland, an exhibit of embroidery by five prominent Mexican arts:Violeta Juárez, Indio Sin Dios, Copyright is for losers, Alejandro Vaca, and Alejandro IV Barragán.
Also on display is work by featured art center members Shawn Coyl and Donnasue Jacobi. Coyl’s art includes acrylic and watercolor paintings as well as stained glass jewel boxes, steel-framed beadwork, and mixed-metal sculptures focused on the water, land, and culture of Hawaii. Jacobi’s exhibit is a show of hand-colored black-and-white silver gelatin prints.
And, as usual, new work by members of the Emerald Art Center also is on display.
