The July 5 artwalk continues this Summer 2024’s theme, The Block is Hot, highlighting Black, African American, and POC community members, and people who have connections to the African Diaspora, all organized by guest producer Treylon Day of Dayinthelife Entertainment.

The Block is Hot: Vol. 3 features live dance, comedy, and music at the Farmers Market Pavilion from 6:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., with performances by Devin Jones, Cameron Daye, Michael Kaye, Gradient, Khoraan, Lil Petty, Kamryn Tierra, and #instaballet.

In addition, WildCraft Cider Works and The Soul Garden (vegan soul food) will be on hand, as will the monthly Artist Marketplace with its array of pop-up shops offering handcrafted creations by dozens of local artists.

As usual, the First Friday ArtWalk officially runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with no admission fee. Those who need transportation to the event can go online to lanearts.org/first-friday-artwalk/ on the day of the ArtWalk and sign up for a free bus pass via Lane Transit District.

Here’s an alphabetical list of shops and galleries that will be open during the July 5 First Friday ArtWalk, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m, unless otherwise noted:

#instaballet (Downtown Eugene Park Blocks, 126 E. 8th Ave.) —  Creation of a new dance helped by the audience suggesting new moves for local, professional dancers to perform. No dance experience necessary; all ages welcome, capped by a performance of the result at 8 p.m. in the Farmer’s Market Pavilion.

Allies, LLC (200 E. 11th Ave., Suite 13) — Featuring art by Allies’ member artists, with proceeds from sales going to benefit the Allies Art Fund.

Bumble Boutique (233 W. 5th Ave.) — Whimsical, colorful, illustrations of nature — often with a feminist twist — by Ashley Schaecher of Lambent Creative, using acrylic paint, watercolor, and colored pencil.

Capitello Wines (540 Charnelton St.) — Colorful: A Happy Collection of Vibrant Abstracts, showcasing work by local artist and flower farmer Cindy Ingram.

Hummingbird is one of Jessica Ballestrazze’s intricate creations on display at Coldfire Brewing.

ColdFire Brewing (263 Mill St.) — Wings and Strings, a watercolor collection of birds from Jessica Ballestrazze featuring intricate threading.

Cosmic Haus (347 W. 5th Ave.) — Featuring work by local illustrator and greaphic designer Lydia Nichols, inspired by the natural world and blending artistry and functionality with botanical elements

FUSE Jewelry Collective (112 E. 13th Ave.) — A place for jewelry lovers to learn, shop, and create, with collections by local artists and small-batch gifts from its metalsmithing workshop.

Jazzy Ladies (560 Oak S., Suite 130) — Oil paintings by John W Olsen.

Nexus Business Lounge (40 E. Broadway) —  Hosting artwork by Troy Jacobson, a personal collection of realism paintings, from African life and wildlife to nostalgic toys and funky guitars. Also featuring a free-play arcade open to First Friday guests, including Pac-Man, Pong, and Pool.

The New Zone Gallery (110 E. 11th Ave.) — An eclectic mix of art created by the New Zone members, plus three special shows during the month of July:

  • Gene Carey’s Lost in Reactions;
  • Mischelle Pennoyer’s Stitches + Fabrics: Exploring Mindfulness Through Creativity;
  • Alice Ena Russell’s Retrospective, paintworks from the late 1940s to early 1990s.

One Wall Gallery at Epic Seconds (30 E. 11th Ave.) — Silent Ghosts, work by Gosia Machon, described as “about living beings, like silent apparitions, yet of this world, maybe in our minds and in our memories” and “featuring plants, animal, landscape as equal counterparts.”

Oregon Art Supply (1020 Pearl St.) — Better Together, exploring the relationships between pairs of 2D- and 3D works.

OSLP Arts & Culture Center (110 E. 11th Ave., Suite C) — Showcasing artwork made in studio classes as well as artists from Community Supported Shelters, providing an artistic outlets for unhoused people in the community.

Resonance Building (840 Lawrence St.) — “Open House and Bring Your Own Puppet (BYOP) Party” at the Resonance Building, a space devoted to healing, integration, and co-creation and an emerging lending library of somatic and co-creative supplies. Featuring trans-media artwork by Christine Olejniczak. The family-friendly Bring Your Own Puppet (BYOP) Party will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and everyone is welcome.

Rooted Remedies (271 W. 8th Ave.) — Readings of Oracle cards with their insightful, healing, helpful, and inspiring messages, offered by Nicole Flores, owner and operator of Earth Mama Domestics, for $5 a card.

Urban Canvas Murals — The City of Eugene’s local mural program presents:

  • 945 Olive St. Alley — A Springtime Gathering, by Erick Wonderly Varela, featuring colorful, stylized hummingbirds and rhododendrons celebrating spring and summer weather.
  • 1059 Willamette St. — Take Flight by Teak, Capsel Rock, and Eliza Be (Williams), an extension of Teak’s previous form line murals, representing the traditional Tlingit art from Alaska, already on the building, and adding the Three Sisters Mountain line, featuring coniferous forest, sunset, and osprey.

The annual Oregon Country Fair takes place on its property along  the Long Tom River west of Veneta on July 12-14, featuring  food, handcrafted wares, and performance art including music, vaudeville, belly dancing, stilts and silks, and meandering the grounds under shade trees.
