The White Lotus Gallery opens a new show called Fired Up: New Clay Works by Hank Murrow, on Dec. 1, with an opening reception from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, where the artist will speak about his work at 1:30 p.m.

The exhibit will run through Dec. 30, 2023.

Murrow came to Eugene in 1958 from Los Angeles in order to study ceramics at the University of Oregon, where he worked with artists Bob James and David Stannard.

He completed his master of fine arts degree at the UO in 1967 and went on to create and teach in locations as far-flung as La Paz, Mexico, and Ohio and Colorado back in the U.S. He came back to Eugene in 1974, where he has spent his time since developing kiln designs as well as creating pottery in his home studio.

“Most of my work is made to serve at our table for family and friends, and, thanks to loyal customers, the larger community of the Willamette Valley and beyond,” Murrow told the curators at White Lotus in preparation for his new show that celebrates his 65-year career as a ceramics artist. “Beyond these influences, I feel certain that my work is deeper from learning to garden and to cook, and our lives are sweetened by good friends for whom to set the table.”
