Forests of Oregon, a new exhibit at White Lotus Gallery, is an apt reminder of the treacherous times in which we live with regard to the annual threat of wildfire in our bountiful and beautiful forests and grasslands.

Hope, by Analee Fuentes

The show, which runs through Sept. 2, 2023, features a variety of expressions of this theme by artists and photographers that include Rich Bergeman,
Analee Fuentes,
Li Tie,
Satoko Motouji
, Connie Mueller,
Dale Mueller
, Jamie Newton,
Lillian Pitt
, Margaret Prentice, and
Gary Tepfer.

The mood is aptly expressed in the writings of naturalist/ecologist John Muir (1838-1914), and shared by White Lotus in announcing this display:

Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods. Here grow the wallflower and the violet. The squirrel will come and sit upon your knee, the logcock (pileated woodpecker) will wake you in the morning. Sleep in forgetfulness of all ill. Of all the upness accessible to mortals, there is no upness comparable to the mountains.

Lillian Pitt’s The Guardian of Trees

White Lotus Gallery designed this show in recognition of the beauty, timelessness, and importance of forests as well as the threats to them imposed by climate change, as expressed below:

“… We have had to learn not to take for granted these wondrous gifts from nature,” the gallerists write. “We invited 10 Oregon artists to share their art that celebrates the grandeur and resilience of our beloved forests and hope you will join us to take in the beauty as captured by these artists.”
