Long known for its summer production called the Oregon Festival of American Music, The Shedd Institute now presents its second-annual Oregon Festival of American Music 2023 Winter.
The entire OFAM Winter festival, which runs Jan. 18-22, offers four evening and two matinee concerts, plus films, talks, a community sing-along and a Sunday afternoon jazz party.
Opening night is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, with Lazy Bones, a celebration of the music of Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer, who collaborated not only on that hit but also numbers such as Star Dust, Skylark, How Little We Knew, Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive, Heart And Soul, and In The Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening.
That performance will be repeated at a matinee at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.
The cast for those two opening concerts includes bandleader Chuck Redd and his festival jazz group (Ehud Asherie, piano; Paul Keller, bass; Kevin Kanner, drums; Randy Napoleon, guitar; Scott Silbert, reeds; Marty Nau, reeds; Tim Clarke, trumpet; and Redd himself on vibes. Vocalists are Lynnea Barry, Evynne Hollens, and Bill Hulings.
But as “they” are fond of saying, that’s not all folks. Following is a list of all of the OFAM Winter 2023 events, along with ticket information, followed by a complete cast list for the series.
Note: Concerts take place in the Jaqua Concert Hall, talks and films in the Sheffer Recital Hall, 6 p.m. pre-concert meals availabale before evening performances, evenings, in the Warren Court.
