Just a few days remain to see Wintry Mix, a seasonal show of new acquisitions at the White Lotus Gallery in downtown Eugene. The show features works by 11 artists, whose backgrounds range from Japanese to New Zealander to Native American.

One of Mike Van’s paintings in the show creates its unique look with ink and watercolor on photographic paper

Then, as winter begins to give hints of the coming spring, the gallery welcomes another show, Celebrating 2020, that features 20 new works of art by 10 artists, each created to have dimensions of 20 inches by 20 inches.

Gallery owner Hue-Ping Lin frequently offers a show during the holidays that features gentle, restful works that make her White Lotus Gallery an oasis from the hubbub of the season.

Then comes the time to look forward to the hopes and ambitions of the New Year, Lin said, “which is special this year because it is 2020, which also expresses the idea of perfect vision and which is why we asked the artists to create work in this exact size.”

The art in the show varies widely, from an exploration using ink and watercolor on photographic paper by longtime artist Mike Van — who in addition to painting taught art at South Eugene High School for three decades — to Li Tie, a Chinese-American artist who combines Asian sensibilities with Pacific Northwest scenery.

Gary Tepfer is one of 10 Oregon artists who has two 20-inch by 20-inch pieces in the White Lotus Gallery Show

“I always enjoy artists who continue to explore new approaches to art,” Lin said. “That is what these artists have done, especially working within the size requirement.”

In addition to Van and Li, the other artists in the show include Jon Jay Cruson, Satoko Motouji, Connie Mueller, Dale Mueller, Jamie Newton, Margaret Prentice, Christine L. Sundt, and Gary Tepfer.

The art encompasses a variety of mediums, from painting, photography, and linocut prints to photography, jewelry, and sculpture.
