Without even leaving town on Sunday, April 7, it will be possible to join Eugene Vocal Arts for a “musical voyage” that features songs by contemporary Asian and Asian-American composers.
These offerings represent music from countries throughout Asia, including China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. They range in style from folk songs and ballads to danceable music and jazz.
The composers include Saunder Choi, Eric Tuan, Cherly Susanti, Ken Steven, Chen Yi, and Vivian Chua.
Eugene Vocal Arts is a chamber choir within the nonprofit Eugene Concert Choir organization, created in the mid-1980s by Diane Retallack, who remains its and conductor and artistic director.
Members of the vocal organizations have performed internationally, including in China, Australia, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
